A Winters Accident
You slipped on the ice
but didnt fall through
Cracking your head
transforming your blood to red from blue
While the children skated around
Fishes faces staring back in frozen despair
Knowing exactly how they felt
You almost envied their end
While your survival tilters in that nervous state of “it depends”.
Wobbling to your feet
Trudging towards the bank in dizzied motion
A cosmos of skaters duplicated
in their orbit of your ground bound being.
One could well be the comet of impending doom.
As every other daughter & mother by an inch manage to miss you
But what if one were to hit?
Maybe that would be it?
Its all too much
As your skull closes in on your brain
& your eyelids threaten to do the same
Ever the invisible one
somehow everyone has failed to notice
You gushing with blood which will later freeze to the floor
The children will stare with intrigue
& the mothers will guffaw.
“Dont touch it, stay away”
& that may well be the same sentiment that they were saying about you on this day
You attempt to scrammble with trembling knees
Sweat freezing to your face as iced beads
You make it to the bank
But too little too late
You are not safe…
As the scene starts to fade
& you pass out of your own conciousness as well as that of the skaters
Damning the Winter as an icey traitor
& no one noticed amongst the flurry of snow
The circumstance may have even frozen your ghost
The next day the children giggled at your Winter Mummy
Maybe this is what the Pharoes would have done if the desserts were not so sunny
In mocking generosity
A service to save your soul
they gave you a carrot for a nose
& 2 eyes made from 2 lumps of coal
